Junior Crossings

Crossings is a community-built project for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants living in Newcastle and it's surrounding areas.

Crossings builds bridges across racial and cultural divides through music. Crossings creates a welcoming space where asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants come together with musicians and local people to collaborate on the development and performance of music, promoting racial harmony, equality, diversity and human rights.

In 2016, Jake began to work with Junior Crossings (a group for young refugee's or the children of refugee's) for his final university project. Here, he put together a small 10 minute performance called The Kingdom of Mu and the Land of the Dragons. This gave participants the chance to explore the themes and issues that refugees face when exposed to new worlds.

Following on from the success of this project, Jake was employed by Crossings to facilitate weekly drama sessions, alongside their weekly singing and music workshops. Each week Jake aims for participants to be actively engaged in drama, from exploring current issues to making theatre as a creative escape.
